Application Process

Academic City is pleased to offer admission to its first-year students in two distinct cohorts, with the first starting in September and the second starting in January. Upon completion of their first year, both cohorts will merge to continue their academic pursuits. The application process of this leading engineering and entrepreneurship university is streamlined and can be efficiently completed through our online portal. Our Admissions Office, located at our Haatso campus in Accra, operates from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM daily. Our knowledgeable and friendly admissions team is available to assist prospective students during these hours through various means of communication, including phone, WhatsApp, and Facebook.

Ways to Apply

Admission to this engineering and entrepreneurship university is competitive, but the admission process is a personal one. Each application is reviewed holistically to understand the strength of each student’s academic preparation including their performance on final exams, counselor recommendations, and their personal career interests. We seek applicants from a variety of geographic, social, cultural, economic, and ethnic backgrounds.

Entry Requirements

Academic City’s Programmes are taught in accordance with the degree Programmes offered by public universities such as University of Mines & Technology (UMAT) and University of Cape Coast (UCC). Find the entry requirements for Academic City Programmes based on high school qualifications below.

Engineering Programmes

WASSCE/NECO

Minimum C6 in 6 subjects including 3 core subjects (Mathematics and English mandatory) and 3 elective subjects. (Elective/Add/Further Mathematics and Physics mandatory)

SSSCE

Minimum D or a pass in 6 subjects including 3 core subjects (Mathematics and English mandatory) and 3 elective subjects. (Elective/Add/Further Mathematics and Physics mandatory).

IGCSE O-Level & A-Level

An applicant must have

  • CREDITS (Grade D or better) in FIVE (5) GCE Ordinary Level (O-Level) subjects, (including English Language and Mathematics.)
  • PASSES (Grade E or better) in THREE (3) Advanced Level (A-Level) subjects, At least two of the passes should be a Grade D or better.
French International Baccalaureate

Minimum of 50% overall average pass. (subject to approval NAB) Mathematics, English and Physics mandatory

English International Baccalaureate

Minimum of 5 credit passes in the IGCSE/O-Levels (Mathematics and English mandatory) and a minimum score of 4 points in 3 Higher Level (HL) subjects. (Elective/Add/Further Mathematics and Physics mandatory)

American High School

Minimum GPA of 3.0 (Mathematics, English and Physics mandatory)

Non-Engineering Programmes

Can I get a receipt for my application fee?

If you paid on-line, your e-mail confirmation is your receipt. We do not send any other acknowledgment of payment. If payment is missing, we will contact you.

What kind of admissions criteria does Academic City use?

There is no formula for gaining admission to ACity. Academic accomplishment in senior high school is important. The Admissions Team does not use quotas of any kind. We rely on academic credentials and overall performance of the student.

Who reads applications?

All applications received are read and carefully considered by our Admissions Team through a series of committee meetings.

What is Academic City's intake in a year?
  • ACity admits students in the fall and spring semesters, please see the admissions page for specific cohorts and intake dates for the upcoming Academic year.
Can there be refund of fees after admission or if a student withdraws from the course?
  • Contact admissions regarding any refunds.
Does Academic City provide financial aid or scholarships?
  • Yes, we provide merit-based scholarships and need-based financial aid. We also provide payment plans and can support students to apply for loans.
When will my application decision be mailed?
  • Upon receiving your submitted application, the Admissions Team will provide a decision within 30 days (Ghana) & 14 days (Nigeria).
I've been accepted. How long do I have to accept the offer of admission?
  • You must respond to admissions within 1 month of receiving your offer. Deadlines may vary if you receive an offer with financial aid or scholarship.
What documents do I need to complete the online application?
  • The only documents you will need are: (1) Prior educational qualifications and transcript, (2) Equivalence of your qualifications for candidates from foreign language institutes. *Additional optional documents such as certificates of achievement and/or training may improve your application.
How/When do I apply for student housing?
  • Simply indicate on your online application or paper application by ticking the box that asks if you need student housing. Academic City will take care of the rest.
